Donegal Presbyterian Church
Church School for all ages
Sundays,
10:20-11:10 a.m.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
From September 12 through October 24, the adult
Sunday School program will feature Living the Questions 2. LtQ2 is an open-minded alternative to studies that attempt
to give participants all the answers and instead strives to create an
environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring
what's next for Christianity. Each
session will begin with a 20-minute video segment and include conversations
with leading voices of faith, digital stories illustrating aspects of an
evolving faith, and concrete spiritual practices and disciplines.
The Fall 2010 sessions will be:
Call to Covenant
·
A Kingdom without Walls
·
Social Justice: Realizing God’s Vision
·
Incarnation: Divinely Human
·
Prayer: Intimacy with God
·
Compassion: The Heart of Jesus’ Ministry
·
Creative Transformation
·
Embracing Mystery
From October 31 through the beginning of Advent we will
study the biblical concept of peace in the Kerygma Bible Study Program
“Shalom.” Shalom
shines biblical light on the issues and unsettled mood of our
times. Old Testament scholar Donald E. Gowan
unravels the multiple biblical threads of this eternal quest in this
masterful exploration of the Hebrew concept "Shalom" and the
Greek "eirene". Peacemaking is a central concern of
the church and the world today.
We hope you will join us for these challenging and
thought provoking discussions.
INTRODUCTION TO WEDNESDAY MORNING
HORIZONS BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 AM
“REVELATION”
In the Bible Study
Workshop that I attended, the pastor/theologian suggested that the story of
“Star Wars” closely follow the Book of Revelation.
In “Star
Wars” there are mythical creatures - as in Revelation; there is
fighting - as in Revelation; there are mystical numbers used again and
again in Revelation; and finally in the end – good overcomes evil and
there is a bright tomorrow. We only
have to believe. This is exactly
what John wanted the churches to know – there are good times at the
end – and not doom and gloom.
I thought it was a great
concept and as I study Revelation, I find the Book of Revelation to follow
some escapades in “Star Wars”.
Did you ever give this a thought?
I never did. But it is an
interesting connection between the two.
I invite the entire
congregation to these exciting times in Revelation. All are welcome. These lessons will be given on the
second Wednesday of each month at 9:45 a.m., in Fellowship Hall. Please check your calendars and record
these dates. If you have any
questions, please ask!
